Former Getafe boss Michael Laudrup has been lined up to take over at Spartak Moscow, effectively ruling him out of the running for the vacant West Ham United job.
The ex-Denmark international is believed to have agreed an 18-month contract with the Russian club and replaces Stanislav Cherchesov, who departed following Spartak's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round defeat to Dynamo Kiev.
Speaking to UEFA's website, Spartak general manager Valeri Karpin said:
"His contract term will be one and a half years. We've chosen this coach as we think that he is capable of setting out the team's style and achieving good results."
Laudrup added: "Spartak are the best-known Russian club, millions support this team all over the world. This situation can be compared with Spain, where we have Real and Barcelona.
"However, the difference is that Spartak haven't won the domestic league for a long time. This team has to be at the top, while also achieving good results on the European stage. I think Spartak have a good future."
